Travel organisation Nordic partners with Albatros Expeditions
Londerzeel, Monday, January 24, 2022
Nordic, specialist in, among other things, exploration trips to the polar regions, is entering a partnership with Albatros Expeditions. Ocean Albatros, a brand new ship of the shipping company, will sail three times in the coming years exclusively for Nordic travelers: in July 2023 to Spitsbergen, in January 2024 to Antarctica and in the summer of 2024 to Greenland.
Nordic has partnered with Hurtigruten for many years on expedition trips to the Polar Regions, Canada, Alaska and Iceland. In addition to this current cooperation, Nordic is also joining forces with Albatros Expeditions, a small-scale family business. With the Ocean Albatros, a comfortable ship with a maximum capacity of 190 passengers, Nordic is thus putting a strong product on the market at a competitive price. The flexibility to put together a customized trip from Nordic and the high quality that comes with such trips were decisive for the travel company to enter the new partnership.
Exclusive for Nordic travelers
Because the entire occupancy of the Ocean Albatros is reserved for Nordic customers, the trip can be completely tailored to the travel organization’s wishes: the expedition team will be put together to suit the needs, an in-house photographer will travel with the crew, and Nordic staff will also be on board. Nordic and Albatros Expeditions are organizing a 10-day trip around Spitsbergen, a 15-day trip to Antarctica involving 7 days ashore, and a 13-day trip to Greenland. Lectures will continue partly in Dutch and Mike Louagie, a homegrown photographer, joins the expedition team. He will also conduct workshops on photographing these unique destinations and advise travelers on the right cameras. From Nordic, Katia de Vil, among others, will travel along as tour guides to keep everything on track.
Katia De Vil, co-founder and soul of Nordic says: « It is with great enthusiasm that we bring these unique trips to the Belgian and Dutch markets. Together with Albatros Expeditions we have put together the itineraries for these trips. Our main aim was to maximize the number of landings, because that is what makes the expedition trips so unforgettable. The finishing touches are also put on board: the brand new Ocean Albatros vessel is comfortable, extremely maneuverable and suitable for polar waters. Great importance is also attached to the culinary framework. All this combined with the impressive nature and lush wildlife you can admire on these voyages makes for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The itinerary and the various landings are always done in an extremely sustainable manner. Travelers return home as ambassadors for a greener planet, marveling at all the beauty these pristine destinations have to offer. »
Focus on comfort and sustainability
The Ocean Albatross is one of the smaller expedition ships, yet the ship does not have to compromise on comfort. With an ice class 1A and polar class 6, the ship is ideally suited to sail through the polar regions. With its sturdy construction and X-Bow®-Infinity class, the ship offers tremendous stability in heavy weather, allowing passengers to feel limited movement even in high waves.
The ship belongs to a new generation of energy-efficient vessels with 4 diesel engines and 2 electric motors, all of which are electrically controlled to optimize both speed and fuel consumption. In addition, the ship is very comfortable. There is a swimming pool, a gym and two Jacuzzis on board. The zodiacs that passengers use to disembark several times a day are the latest on the market and sail conveniently through the ice-strewn waters.
